History of Marxist College
The School of Marxism of Southwest University of Political Science and Law has a long history, which originated from the political theory teaching and research Office and set up at the beginning of its establishment. At that time, it was mainly responsible for the teaching and research work of political theory courses of the university. In 1958, it was renamed the Department of Political Education and enrolled undergraduate students majoring in political education. In 1960, it set up three departments of political education, politics and administration, and enrolled undergraduates respectively. In 1978, the school resumed enrollment and set up the political theory teaching and research section. In the same year, it established two undergraduate programs, namely Marxist philosophy and International communist movement. In 1988, the Ministry of Marxism-Leninism was established. The Teaching and Research Office of Philosophy and The History of the Communist Party of China was once one of the "hundred red flags" in the teaching of ideological and political theory. In 1984, it was granted the master's degree in the second level discipline of Marxist philosophy, and began to enroll master's students. In December 2000, it obtained the master's degree authorization of the second-level discipline of Marxist Theory and Ideological and political Education. In January 2006, it was granted the master's degree in the first level discipline of Marxist theory. In March 2011, it obtained the authorization of master's degree in first-level discipline of philosophy.
In 2001, while continuing to strengthen the teaching of public theory courses, the college opened the undergraduate major of ideological and political education. In 2003, it was renamed school of Politics and Public Affairs (Department of Ideological and Political Theory). In July 2012, the School established Marxism College. In September 2018, it was selected into the first batch of key Marxist colleges in Chongqing. In January 2019, the university signed a co-construction agreement with Marxism College of the CPC Central Party School and Marxism College of Renmin University of China.
The school consists of five departments, namely, the Department of Ideological and Political Education, the Department of Philosophy, the Institute of History, the Department of Situation and Policy, and the Department of Postgraduate Ideological and political Education. There are three university-level key scientific research bases, including the Research Center for Ideological Strategy, the Research Center for Socialism with Chinese Characteristics for a New Era, and the Research Center for Inner-Party Laws and Regulations, as well as one municipal scientific research base of Chongqing Inner-Party Laws and Regulations. The school now has two first-level disciplines such as Marxist theory and philosophy, and two first-level disciplines such as master's degree authorization points. It also has doctorate cultivation points on Marxist legal philosophy, Marxist legal theory and inner-Party law construction. Philosophy and Marxist theory are all first-level key disciplines of Chongqing municipality. It has two undergraduate majors, ideological and political education and philosophy.
Marxism College has 70 faculty and staff, including 65 teachers and 5 administrators. There are 13 professors, 28 associate professors, 24 lecturers, 44 doctoral teachers, 3 doctoral supervisors, 38 master supervisors.
Faculty members have published more than 30 papers on important academic journals such as Marxist Studies, Philosophical Studies, People's Daily and Guangming Daily, many of which have been reprinted by authoritative academic journals such as Xinhua Digest and China Social Science Digest., and published 32 books and textbooks on Marxist theoretical research. Since 2015, faculty members have presided over 1 major national social Science Fund bidding project, 12 completed national social science fund projects, 20 completed national social science fund projects, presided over more than 50 provincial-level scientific research projects, and won 10 provincial-level scientific research achievement awards.
School of Marxism aims to create first-class teaching research in the field of national with college, centers on the subject construction and talents training, efforts to achieve the combination of academic research and application research, the combination of normative research and empirical research, positive development and exchange of Marxist theory research, to institute bases for the research on Marxist theory and talent training base.
